Manila: The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Friday encouraged the public to maximize the use of the Unified 911 hotline during disasters and calamities to ensure faster emergency response and improve public safety. The Unified 911 Hotline connects callers to the police, fire, medical, and rescue services through a single emergency number.

According to Philippines News Agency, PNP Chief Gen. Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr. emphasized that the hotline is not solely for addressing crimes but also to cater to the needs of citizens during natural calamities, including typhoons. He highlighted that the hotline is crucial for preemptive evacuation, search and rescue operations, and other emergencies, describing it as a lifeline for everybody.

Gen. Nartatez stressed the importance of early reporting of emergencies, which allows responders to act faster, especially during severe weather when every minute can save lives. This initiative aligns with the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to strengthen disaster preparedness and ensure community safety during inclement weather, under the guidance of Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla.

The PNP chief further stated that the police organization aims to increase awareness among Filipinos about the hotline and encourage its use whenever immediate assistance is required. He noted that the hotline is a vital part of the government's disaster preparedness efforts, complementing the response of local government units and other emergency responders.
