Quezon city: The Quezon City government has officially announced that La Loma, renowned for its lechon establishments, is now free from the African swine fever (ASF) virus. This declaration follows the implementation of rigorous sanitation measures and compliance with health regulations across the district's lechon businesses.

According to Philippines News Agency, the city government communicated through a Facebook statement that 14 lechon establishments in La Loma were temporarily closed on November 13 after ASF was detected in some hogs. The establishments, in coordination with the City Veterinary Department and the QC Health Department, engaged in daily disinfection activities for a week, adhering to a memorandum issued by the Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI).

The city government reported that three of the establishments have been granted permission to reopen after successfully meeting the regulatory standards of the City Health Department and the City Veterinary Department. This reopening is a result of the businesses passing the necessary health and safety protocols.

In addition to the disinfection efforts, the affected lechon businesses were required to adhere to strict sanitary, safety, and health guidelines before resuming operations. The QC government has assured ongoing support for these business owners to help them maintain protocol compliance and ensure the quality and safety of their roasted pig products.
