QC Gov’t Introduces Electric Buses to Free Ride Service Along Key Route

QUEZON CITY: In an effort to enhance sustainable public transportation, the Quezon City government has announced the addition of six electric buses to its free ride service, starting January 2, 2025. These e-buses will serve QCity Bus Route 1, connecting Quezon City Hall to Cubao, and aim to improve air quality and reduce pollution.

According to Philippines News Agency, the new electric buses boast a seating capacity of 41 and include wheelchair ramps to ensure accessibility for persons with disabilities. The buses also feature limited standing capacity to prioritize passenger safety and comfort. Traffic enforcers from the Traffic and Transport Management Department have been deployed to facilitate the smooth operation of this service.

Mayor Joy Belmonte stated that this initiative aligns with the Electric Vehicle Industry Development Act (EVIDA Law), Republic Act No. 11697, which aims to promote environmentally friendly transportation options. "This step is in line with the Quezon City government's efforts to take care of our environment and reduce pollution from traditional vehicles," Mayor Belmonte said.

The introduction of the e-buses is part of Quezon City's broader strategy to provide sustainable and accessible transportation options for its residents. While the new electric buses will operate on Route 1, the existing fleet of QCity buses will continue to offer free rides along several other routes, including connections from QC Hall to various locations such as Litex/IBP Road, Welcome Rotonda, Aurora Katipunan, General Luis, Mindanao Ave. via Visayas Ave, Gilmore, C5/Ortigas Ave. Extension, and Mu±oz.
