QCPD Chief Relieved for Failing to Report Erring Officer

Manila: National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) Director Maj. Gen. Anthony Aberin announced the administrative relief of Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Director Brig. Gen. Melecio Maddatu Buslig Jr. for failing to promptly report an incident involving a police officer accused of grave misconduct.

According to Philippines News Agency, during a press conference at the QCPD headquarters in Camp Karingal, Aberin explained that Buslig did not immediately inform him about the misconduct, which had gone viral on social media. 'He may have presumed that I was already aware of the incident. But cases like this should immediately be reported so that proper actions and solutions could be done in the soonest possible time,' Aberin stated.

The incident involved a police sergeant who allegedly entered a house in Barangay Damayan, Quezon City, while intoxicated. The officer reportedly confronted the resident, accusing them of wrongdoing, leading to an altercation. The complainant also claimed that the officer inflicted physical injuries on her minor daughter. The incident was recorded and widely shared online.

Aberin emphasized the arrest of the officer as evidence of their strict no-tolerance policy against misconduct by police personnel. 'There is no second chance for police scalawags,' he declared.

Deputy Director for Administration Col. Randy Glenn Silvio has been appointed as the officer in charge of the QCPD. During the same press conference, Silvio disclosed the relief of three QCPD members, including Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit chief Maj. Dondon Llapitan, for allegedly releasing a person under police custody without authorization.

Silvio revealed that the officers took a female detainee, charged with qualified theft, to a hotel for reasons still under investigation. 'During the interview, inamin naman niya na mayroon nga daw nilabas na isang PUPC (he admitted that a PUPC was taken outside),' he added. The detainee has since been returned to the detention facility.
