Rains to Persist Across Luzon Due to Southwest Monsoon

Manila: The weather bureau announced that most areas in Luzon will continue to experience rainfall due to the prevailing southwest monsoon, locally known as "habagat."

According to Philippines News Agency, occasional rains are expected to persist over the Ilocos Region, Batanes, Babuyan Islands, Abra, and Benguet. Additionally, scattered rains and thunderstorms are forecasted for Metro Manila, Central Luzon, the rest of the Cordillera region, the rest of Cagayan Valley, and Rizal.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) warned that the moderate to heavy rains in these areas could potentially lead to flash floods or landslides. The agency's 4 a.m. bulletin highlighted the ongoing impact of the southwest monsoon across the region.

While the rest of the country will still experience isolated rains or thunderstorms, strong winds and rough seas will continue to affect extreme northern Luzon. The western section of Luzon will also face moderate to strong winds and moderate to rough seas. Elsewhere, winds are expected to be light to moderate, with slight to moderate coastal waters.

PAGASA also reported that as of 2 a.m., no low-pressure area is currently being monitored for potential tropical cyclone formation.
