IACAT Repatriates 375 Filipinos in First Half of 2025

Manila: The Inter-Agency Council against Trafficking (IACAT) announced on Wednesday that it has successfully repatriated 375 Filipino citizens back to the Philippines during the first half of 2025. The council's efforts are part of a broader initiative to combat human trafficking and provide support to victims.

According to Philippines News Agency, IACAT Executive Director Hannah Lizette Manalili from the Department of Justice (DOJ) reported that the council has extended assistance to a total of 900 trafficking victims during the same period. This assistance is facilitated through IACAT's operations center, which aims to support victims of various forms of trafficking.

Manalili highlighted the effectiveness of collaborative efforts between task forces and member agencies, which have resulted in the prosecution of 111 individuals and secured 50 convictions. "This demonstrates our unwavering effort not only to monitor cases but to prosecute. 'Yun po ang ating (That is our) strong commitment not only to rescue victims but to file cases against their perpetrators," she stated.

Most charges were related to sex trafficking and forced labor. Among the convictions, 14 were for sex trafficking, while one involved illegal child adoption. The IACAT emphasizes a coordinated, multi-sectoral, and victim-centered approach in its fight against trafficking in persons.

In the first half of 2025, the agency prioritized enhancing inter-agency coordination, boosting law enforcement capabilities, and ensuring that support for survivors remains a central focus of their strategy.
