Regional Athletic Meet Facilitates School Preparations in Benguet

Benguet: The recent hosting of the 2025 Cordillera Administrative Region Athletic Association (CARAA) sports competition in Benguet province this February has significantly aided local schools in their preparations for the new school year by addressing various infrastructural issues.

According to Philippines News Agency, Regina Sarmiento, the principal of Puguis Elementary School in the capital town, emphasized the positive impact of hosting the CARAA event. The preparations for the athletic meet led to the identification and resolution of several infrastructural problems, such as clogged toilets and insufficient water supply. The proactive measures taken during this period ensured that the schools were ready for the opening of classes.

For the School Year 2024-2025, Puguis Elementary School reported a total enrollment of 1,594 students, with 1,549 attending on the first day of classes. This initial day coincided with the town's founding anniversary, following a holiday on Monday. The school had previously hosted the athletic delegation from Ifugao province and was recognized as the second-best billeting school during the CARAA competition in late February.

The provincial government had allocated funds to ensure all billeting schools were well-prepared for the competition, providing a comfortable environment for the delegates. Sarmiento noted the smooth transition into the new academic year, attributing it to the teachers' dedication and the thorough preparations made prior to the start of classes.

The Brigada Eskwela, conducted from June 9 to 13, also played a crucial role in preparing the school for the new academic year. It facilitated the physical readiness of the classrooms, supported student enrollment, and allowed for meetings with parents. Sarmiento confirmed the school's readiness, highlighting the availability of sufficient desks and chairs, particularly in their newly constructed building with five classrooms fully equipped.
