Remains of Filipino Cop to Return Home Following US Air Collision

Manila: The remains of police Col. Pergentino Malabed, who died in a collision between a military helicopter and a commercial plane near Washington, D.C., will be brought back to the Philippines on Thursday.

According to Philippines News Agency, Philippine National Police (PNP) information chief Col. Randulf Tua±o announced that Malabed's remains are scheduled to arrive at 7:45 a.m. on February 20 and will be honored on February 27. "Officially dadalhin yung kanyang labi dito para bigyan ng honor dito sa Feb. 27 para for viewing and then finally ang internment niya ay sa March 5," Tua±o stated in a press conference at Camp Crame.

Malabed was serving as the chief of the supply management division under the PNP Directorate for Logistics at the time of the incident. He was among the 67 individuals who lost their lives in the collision. Tua±o mentioned that Malabed was on an official trip, fulfilling his duties to protect and secure both the PNP and the nation.

The collision occurred as an American Airlines plane was approaching Ronald Reagan National Airport when a US Army helicopter entered its flight path. The passenger plane carried 60 passengers and four crew members, while the helicopter had three soldiers on board.
