Albay: Alternergy Holding Corp. has secured a Certificate of Authority (COA) from the Department of Energy (DOE) to develop a new onshore wind power project in the province of Albay. Alternergy said in a statement Thursday that its unit Alternergy Wind Holdings Corp. (AWHC) would have the exclusive authority to undertake exploration and assessment of wind resources for the Albay Wind Power Project.
According to Philippines News Agency, AWHC president Knud Hedeager expressed satisfaction with receiving the DOE's approval to develop another wind project in Luzon. Hedeager noted that the COA framework is a landmark policy initiative by the current DOE under Energy Secretary Raphael Lotilla. It supports developers from the onset, thereby helping mitigate project risks and enhance overall project viability.
The project area is set to cover 6,318 hectares, capable of producing at least 150 megawatts of clean energy. Alternergy stated that this project would be part of its future pipeline, beyond its current "Road to 500 MW" goal by 2026. Hedeager highlighted that this is an exciting time for the company as they are set to complete construction of their Tanay and Alabat Wind Power Projects this year, with plans to move forward with developing new wind projects.
Upon the issuance of the COA, AWHC is required to complete its feasibility study and secure necessary permits and licenses from government agencies within a three-year timeframe. If the project proves viable for commercial operation, the COA will be converted into a 25-year Wind Energy Service Contract.
