Residents’ Tips Lead to NPA Encounter, Arms Cache Recovery in Mindoro

Magsaysay: Government troops engaged New People's Army (NPA) members in Magsaysay, Occidental Mindoro, on Thursday evening, neutralizing one rebel and recovering war materiel.

According to Philippines News Agency, the Army's 2nd Infantry Division (2ID) reported on Friday that troops from the 203rd Infantry Brigade, 1st Infantry, 68th Infantry, and 5th Scout Ranger battalions launched the operation. This action was prompted by tips from residents about the presence of communist terrorist group members in the area.

During the operation, soldiers recovered one high-powered firearm, other war materiel, and personal belongings abandoned by the fleeing rebels. Pursuit operations are ongoing against the remaining armed group members, one of whom is confirmed to be wounded.

Earlier, in Barangay Benli, Bulalacao, Oriental Mindoro, troops recovered an arms cache following a citizen tip. The cache included one M16 rifle, one homemade shotgun, and two improvised explosive devices, underscoring the ongoing community cooperation in denying the NPA access to weapons and explosives.

"This successful operation is another testament to the strong partnership between our security forces and the communities we serve. Every report from our citizens strengthens our ability to protect lives, dismantle the remaining capabilities of the communist terrorist group, and sustain the gains of peace and development," stated 2ID chief Maj. Gen. Ramon Zagala. He urged the public to remain vigilant and continue reporting suspicious activities that may threaten community safety.
