Restroom Upgrade for Comfort of LRT-1 Passengers

Manila: Passengers of the Light Rail Transit Line 1 (LRT-1) will soon experience improved restrooms following the recent signing of a partnership between the Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC) and Mister Loo Philippines. In a statement on Tuesday, the LRMC-the operator and maintenance provider of the LRT-1-said the partnership aims to provide passengers with cleaner, more comfortable, and modern restroom facilities.

According to Philippines News Agency, the partnership will pilot at LRT-1 EDSA and Fernando Poe Jr. stations, where existing restrooms at each station will undergo a complete renovation and upgrade by Mister Loo. To provide passengers with more options, the use of some of the renovated restrooms will remain free of charge, while the others will be converted into a premium facility accessible for a fee. These premium restrooms will offer enhanced features and provide commuters with a choice aside from the regular facilities.

The memorandum of agreement (MOA) between the two companies was signed in April and witnessed by key executives, including LRMC president and chief executive officer (CEO) Enrico Benipayo, chief finance officer Franz Sia, and business development head Allan Rei Hernandez. Mister Loo was represented by its founder and CEO Andreas Wanner, senior business development manager Cristina Bolcan, and project manager, architect Jude Gador.

The renovation of the restrooms and construction of premium facilities at the EDSA and Fernando Poe Jr. Stations are expected to begin soon, and their full rollout is in the third quarter of 2026.
