Ricky Lim Appointed as Chef De Mission for 20th Asian Games

Pasay city: The Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) has appointed Ricky Lim as the new chef de mission (CdM) for the upcoming Aichi-Nagoya 20th Asian Games. This decision follows the resignation of Al Panlilio, who stepped down from the position citing his inability to fully commit to the role.

According to Philippines News Agency, POC president Abraham 'Bambol' Tolentino announced Lim's appointment during the POC General Assembly held at the East Ocean Restaurant in Pasay City. Tolentino acknowledged Panlilio's resignation, noting that Panlilio felt it would be unfair to continue as CdM without the ability to dedicate himself completely to the responsibilities, especially for the Filipino athletes and delegates preparing for the Asian Games.

Panlilio's decision to resign was influenced by his recent commitments, including his election as president of the golf association last April and his appointment as chairman of BlockShoals Technologies, a cryptocurrency company, on July 1. These significant roles in major business ventures prompted his withdrawal from the CdM position.

Ricky Lim, who currently leads Karate Pilipinas, has been entrusted with the CdM duties. He will be supported by deputy CdMs Erika Dy of the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas, Jarryd Bello of Curling Pilipinas, Alexander Sulit of the Philippine Judo Federation, and Jop Malonzo of vovinam. Tolentino expressed confidence in Lim, citing his previous experience as CdM at the Harbin Asian Winter Games in China in February 2025, and as a deputy CdM at the Bahrain Asian Youth Games the previous year.

The Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, scheduled to take place from September 19 to October 4, will see the participation of 430 Filipino athletes. Among them is Paris Olympics double-gold medalist gymnast Carlos Yulo, who will be competing in 40 out of the 43 sports events at the Asiad.
