Laoag: A pioneering batch of students from the Rodolfo Fari±as Jr. National Science High School (RFNSHS) will benefit from the PHP4.49 million worth of robotics physics package given by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) to boost their creativity.
According to Philippines News Agency, Flenie Galicinao, education program supervisor of the Department of Education-Laoag City and officer-in-charge of RFNSHS, stated that a total of 110 students will directly benefit from the initiative. The comprehensive package includes robotics kits, experimental apparatus, instructional guidebooks, and reference materials.
Galicinao expressed that the kits are valuable for enhancing classroom learning and providing students with hands-on experience in robotics and physics. She thanked the DOST for supplying the necessary resources to strengthen learners' foundation in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
With the assistance of DOST personnel, Galicinao mentioned preparations are underway for training teachers to utilize the robotics equipment as instructional materials in time for the opening of classes.
Engineer Brian Rasco, provincial director of the DOST-Ilocos Norte, emphasized the significance of investing in education and innovation to foster a culture of scientific excellence and innovation across the province. He encouraged students to make the most of the tools provided and assured the agency's ongoing support for their academic journey and aspirations.
The first national science high school in the province formally opened in July 2024 with a total of 80 Grade 7 students, established under Republic Act 10965, signed into law on Dec. 28, 2017.
