Manila: Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez on Thursday led the House of Representatives in commemorating the 127th anniversary of Philippine Independence, calling on Filipinos to honor the country's heroes by protecting democracy, promoting inclusive development, and uniting behind President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s 'Bagong Pilipinas' vision. 'Independence Day is not only a remembrance of our past. It is a call to strengthen our present and secure our future. It reminds us that freedom must be protected, nurtured, and used to uplift the lives of every Filipino,' Romualdez said in his message.
According to Philippines News Agency, the leader of the House of Representatives paid tribute to the sacrifices of Filipino heroes who, more than a century ago, fought against colonial rule and laid the foundation for a sovereign, democratic Philippines. The House, Romualdez said, joins the entire nation in reaffirming a collective duty to preserve the ideals of the country's forebears through laws that uphold democracy, protect the rights of citizens, and enable genuine and inclusive progress.
'In support of the 'Bagong Pilipinas' vision, we pursue reforms grounded in transparency, accountability, and service. We believe that true independence means giving our people not only the liberty to dream but also the tools to achieve those dreams,' he said. The House chief added that the spirit of the country's heroes lives on in every Filipino who stands for truth, serves with integrity, and works to build a nation that is free, just, and strong.
'Let this day inspire us to stand united, to act with purpose, and to serve with integrity,' Romualdez said.
