Sarangani and General Santos City Seek Investments in Tourism and Retirement Facilities

Manila: Foreign and local businesses are urged to invest in tourism and retirement facilities in Sarangani and General Santos City, being two of Mindanao's most underrated destinations for retirees and travelers. At the SOX Investment Tourism Forum in Para±aque City, the Department of Tourism (DOT) highlighted the convenience and cost-effectiveness of these locations as prime choices for tourists and retirees.

According to Philippines News Agency, DOT-Soccsksargen Director Nelia Arina emphasized the cost advantages and the potential of these destinations. She pointed out that the Philippines offers low-cost options, with General Santos City standing out as a particularly affordable destination. Arina described these areas as untapped and underrated, making them attractive to investors.

Arina also assured potential investors of the safety and security of the regions, mentioning the presence of large corporations, both foreign and Filipino-owned, in Sarangani. She noted that General Santos City is home to a significant number of canning factories, with 90 percent of the country's canning industry based there, highlighting the industrial strength of the area.

The 2026 SOX Investment Tourism Forum attracted at least 30 investors from countries including Korea, Japan, and China. Arina expressed optimism that the subsequent 'investment tour' would lead to more signed ventures. She referenced the 2025 forum's success, which focused on South Cotabato and resulted in at least 13 investors attending, with one already set to open a retirement facility in the province this November.
