Albay: The National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) announced a 12-hour power interruption scheduled to affect several towns and cities in Albay on June 5. The planned outage will occur from 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and will impact the Ligao, Polangui, Malinao, and Matagbac substations under the Albay Electric Cooperative (Aleco), as well as the Good Found Cement Corporation and the Albay Agro-Industrial Development Corporation.
According to Philippines News Agency, the power interruption is necessary to facilitate preventive and corrective maintenance work along the Daraga-Ligao 69-kilovolt (kV) line and the Tiwi C-Pawa-Tabaco 69-kV line, in addition to general maintenance and testing of high-voltage equipment. NGCP indicated that efforts would be made to restore power either earlier or as scheduled.
Anj Galero, Aleco's public information officer, explained in a phone interview that at least 11 towns and two cities would feel the effects of the planned outage. Areas affected under the Ligao and Polangui substations include Ligao City, Oas, Pio Duran, Polangui, Libon, and parts of Camalig, Jovellar, and Guinobatan. Meanwhile, Tabaco City, Malilipot, Malinao, Tiwi, and portions of Bacacay will be impacted under the Tabaco and Malinao substations.
Galero also noted that Aleco would carry out parallel activities at the Tabaco and Malinao substations during the NGCP outage. These activities include load transfer from Tabaco F2 to Malinao F1, conversion of primary assembly, replacement of poles, and right-of-way line clearing.
