Senate Majority Names Erwin Tulfo Acting Blue Ribbon Chair

Manila: The Senate majority bloc has designated Senator Erwin Tulfo as the acting chairperson of the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee following the resignation of Senator Panfilo 'Ping' Lacson, Senate President Vicente 'Tito' Sotto III announced Wednesday. Sotto stated that the decision was reached during a caucus of the majority senators.

According to Philippines News Agency, Sotto informed reporters that the majority decided to make the vice chairman the acting chairman, and Senator Tulfo accepted the post. Sotto clarified that there is no need for plenary confirmation as Tulfo automatically assumes the role of vice chairperson in the absence of the committee head. He emphasized that Tulfo would serve in an acting capacity until the majority convenes again to choose a permanent chairperson.

Sotto also assured that the Blue Ribbon Committee's flood control hearings would continue despite the leadership transition. He noted that the Senate remains operational even during its break, allowing committees, particularly the Committee on Finance, to continue hearings almost daily.

Tulfo expressed gratitude for the trust and confidence given by his colleagues, vowing to uphold the committee's mandate. He emphasized the importance of the Blue Ribbon Committee in ensuring transparency and accountability in government. Tulfo acknowledged the reliance of many Filipinos on the committee to investigate misuse of public funds, regardless of political affiliation. He looked forward to the appointment of a permanent chairperson soon to ensure continuity and confidence in the committee's work.
