Senate Reopens to Visitors Following Security Measures

Manila: Senate President Sherwin Gatchalian announced the lifting of the 'No Visitation' policy weeks after the Senate was placed under heightened alert.

According to Philippines News Agency, visitors will now be allowed at the Senate under the Office of the Senate Sergeant-at-Arms (OSAA)'s Visitor Management System. In a video message, Gatchalian emphasized his duty to maintain the stability of the institution and ensure everyone's safety. He assured that the Senate will prioritize the safety of Senators, employees, media, visitors, and the public.

The Senate will continue to coordinate with security agencies to safeguard the chamber. Measures include continuous inspection of entry points, presentation of proper identification, and monitoring of the Senate premises. Gatchalian's office is open to suggestions, aiming to balance security and accessibility.

The Senate was placed under heightened alert on June 9 due to alleged security threats. In a memorandum, Gatchalian temporarily suspended the visitation policy and implemented heightened security measures and preventive safety protocols in the Senate.
