Manila: Senator Sherwin Gatchalian on Tuesday emphasized the importance of implementing a cost-sharing scheme with local government units and utilizing public-private partnerships (PPPs) to address deficiencies in school infrastructure and services across the nation. Gatchalian highlighted that such strategies could expedite improvements in schools, particularly in underserved regions.
According to Philippines News Agency, Gatchalian reiterated his previous proposals, advocating for public-private partnerships and a counterpart program where the national and local governments share the cost of constructing basic education facilities. He stressed the necessity of ensuring access to electricity, water, and internet along with classrooms to guarantee the safety, comfort, and effective learning of students. The senator pointed out that these resources are crucial for delivering quality education.
Gatchalian also drew attention to the importance of addressing student nutrition, noting its significant impact on improving learning outcomes. He warned that without bold reforms and innovative funding mechanisms, the country's education crisis would persist.
