Manila: Senate President Francis Escudero and Senator Grace Poe expressed their support for the appointment of Vivencio "Vince" Dizon as the new Secretary of the Department of Transportation (DOTr). Dizon, the former chief of the Bases Conversion and Development Authority, steps in following outgoing Secretary Jaime Bautista's resignation due to health reasons, as announced by Malaca±ang.
According to Philippines News Agency, Escudero congratulated Dizon via social media, expressing eagerness to collaborate with him in government. He also acknowledged Bautista's contributions and wished him well. Senator Poe released a statement highlighting the challenges ahead for Dizon but remained optimistic about his leadership, emphasizing his experience as vital for advancing infrastructure projects and policy improvements in the transportation sector.
Poe assured Dizon of the Senate's support in addressing the needs of the commuting public and enhancing the transportation system. Senators also expressed gratitude to Bautista for his service, with Senator Joel Villanueva welcoming Dizon's appointment and acknowledging his extensive government experience as beneficial to the DOTr.
Villanueva expressed optimism about working with Dizon to tackle traffic congestion, transportation safety, and infrastructure development, which he identified as essential for economic growth. Senate Deputy Majority Leader Joseph Victor Ejercito also congratulated Dizon and expressed confidence in his ability to advance infrastructure and transport modernization.
Ejercito emphasized the importance of continuing key transportation initiatives such as airport modernization, the Metro Manila Subway Project, the North-South Commuter Railway, the Mindanao Railway, and the PNR South Long Haul. He noted that these projects are crucial for creating a more efficient and reliable transportation system in the country.
In his statement, Ejercito also extended appreciation to Bautista, recognizing his efforts in strengthening the nation's transport systems.
