Serbia Triumphs Over Dominican Republic in Women’s VNL Week 2

Pasig city: Anja Zubic powered Serbia to a 25-19, 25-23, 25-18 victory over Dominican Republic Friday in the Women's Volleyball Nations League Week 2 at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.

According to Philippines News Agency, the 21-year-old Zubic scored 15 points with 12 attacks, two blocks, and one ace, while Nina Cajic contributed 12 points through 10 attacks and two blocks. This win allowed world No. 10 Serbia to bounce back after losing to world No. 5 Japan and top-ranked Italy.

Serbia now holds two wins and five losses, moving closer to the mid-table in the elite 18-nation event. On the other hand, Dominican Republic, ranked No. 12, remains winless in seven matches. Sthefany Gonzalez finished with 11 points, comprising eight blocks and six attacks, and Jineiry Martinez added 10 points with eight attacks and two blocks.

The top eight teams after the three-week, nine-leg preliminary stage will advance to the final in Macau. World No. 2 Brazil, currently competing in the Ankara (Turkiye) leg, maintains a perfect record with six wins. Japan, one of the six nations in the Pasig City leg, is the only other unbeaten team, with a 5-0 record.
