Manila: The Department of Health (DOH) announced on Tuesday that seven fireworks-related injuries (FWRIs) have been recorded across different regions, marking a 75 percent decrease compared to the same period last year.

According to Philippines News Agency, the DOH reported that during the same timeframe last year, there were 28 FWRIs. The current cases were documented by 62 sentinel hospitals between Dec. 21 and 4 a.m. of Dec. 23, with most injuries attributed to illegal fireworks, notably Boga and 5-star.

The data indicates that 57 percent of those injured are 19 years old and below, while 43 percent are aged 20 and above. The DOH has emphasized the importance of immediately taking victims to the hospital in the event of fireworks-related accidents.

The public is urged to contact the National Emergency Hotline 911 for emergency medical assistance, as advised by the DOH.
