Manila: Local shares closed slightly higher on the first trading day of the week, while the peso moved sideways. The Philippine Stock Exchange index (PSEi) rose 0.18 percent to 6,352.66, while All Shares also went up 0.53 percent to 3,743.41.
According to Philippines News Agency, "Philippine shares closed slightly positive to kickstart the month of June as the market gears up for new economic data that could influence price action movement this week," said Regina Capital Development Corp. head of sales Luis Limlingan. Limlingan highlighted that key local data, including Monday's manufacturing PMI, Thursday's May inflation, and Friday's unemployment, industrial output, and consumer confidence, would provide a comprehensive view of economic health.
Most sectors recorded gains except for Industrial and Holding Firms. Advancers led decliners at 119 to 80, while 54 issues remained unchanged. Meanwhile, the peso remained steady, closing at 55.7 to a dollar on Monday from last week's 55.75 finish. It opened at 55.85 and traded within a range of 55.68 to 55.87.
