Shear Line and ITCZ Set to Bring Heavy Rainfall Across the Philippines

MANILA: The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) announced Monday that regions across the Philippines are expected to experience moderate to heavy rainfall due to the shear line and the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ). According to Philippines News Agency, PAGASA's latest advisory indicates that the rainfall will affect several provinces, including Cagayan, Apayao, Isabela, Aurora, Quezon, Camarines Norte, Palawan, Sorsogon, Northern Samar, Samar, Eastern Samar, Biliran, Leyte, Southern Leyte, Zamboanga del Norte, Negros Oriental, Siquijor, and Dinagat Islands. The advisory warns of increased risks of flash floods and landslides, particularly in elevated or mountainous areas. The weather bureau highlighted that the shear line is specifically impacting the eastern sections of Central and Southern Luzon, while the ITCZ is causing widespread rain over Palawan, Visayas, and Mindanao. Additionally, the northeast monsoon, locally known as "amihan," is affect ing Northern and Central Luzon, resulting in cloudy skies and light to moderate rains. PAGASA has expressed concerns that the effects of heavy rainfall could be exacerbated in regions that have already experienced prior rain, leading to potential hazards. The agency has advised the public and disaster risk reduction and management offices to implement necessary measures to safeguard life and property. As of 2 a.m., PAGASA reported that there are no low-pressure areas being monitored for potential tropical cyclone development.
