Bicol Police Seize PHP7.3 Million in Illegal Drugs During Weeklong Operations

LEGAZPI CITY: In a concerted effort to combat the illegal drug trade, the Police Regional Office in Bicol (PRO-5) successfully confiscated PHP7.3 million worth of illegal drugs and arrested six suspects over the course of a weeklong series of operations from December 23 to 29. The operations, which spanned multiple locations within the region, underscored the ongoing commitment of local law enforcement to dismantle drug networks and protect communities.

According to Philippines News Agency, PRO-5 Director Brig. Gen. Andre Dizon reported on Monday that the operations resulted in the seizure of various illegal substances, including 1.076 kilograms of shabu and 3 grams of marijuana. A particularly notable achievement was the interception of 1 kilogram of shabu, valued at PHP6.8 million, at Matnog Port on December 23. This seizure is considered a substantial blow to the illegal drug trade, given Matnog Port's role as a significant transit point for contraband entering the region.

In addition to the major seizure at Matnog Port, operations in Camarines Sur led to the confiscation of drugs worth PHP408,000. Further efforts in Naga City, Albay, and Camarines Norte resulted in additional seizures valued at PHP54,400, PHP41,160, and PHP13,600, respectively. Dizon emphasized that these operations affirm the PRO-5's dedication to safeguarding communities from the adverse effects of illegal substances and disrupting the distribution networks that facilitate their spread.

In a related development, PRO-5 also participated in the national commemoration of the 128th anniversary of Dr. Jose Rizal's martyrdom. Brig. Gen. Dizon urged the public to reflect on the spirit of patriotism and love for the country, as exemplified by the national hero and others who sacrificed for the Philippines' freedom. "PRO-5, in solidarity with this celebration, reaffirms its commitment to the aspirations of nationalism, integrity, and service to the people," Dizon stated, highlighting the importance of remembering the sacrifices of heroes to foster unity and concern for others.

Dizon further remarked that Rizal Day serves as more than just a historical commemoration; it invites all Filipinos to unite in building a nation that is just, free, and prosperous, in alignment with the visions of Dr. Jose Rizal.
