Shipping Lines Cancel Dumaguete-Dapitan Trips Due to Inday

Dumaguete city: Several shipping lines cancelled trips between Dumaguete City and Dapitan City after rough seas caused by the southwest monsoon (habagat), enhanced by Typhoon Inday, disrupted operations. According to Philippines News Agency, Lt. Marionne Abigail Enopia, commander of the Coast Guard Station Negros Oriental, said Thursday the cancellations began Wednesday evening after sea travel was suspended at the Port of Dapitan. "Shipping lines had to cancel outbound trips from Dumaguete because their vessels were stranded at the Port of Dapitan," Enopia told the Philippine News Agency. Affected voyages included MV Fastcat 5, MV Evaristo Ferry 8, Lite Ferry 12 and Lite Ferry 17, which were scheduled to depart for Dapitan on Wednesday evening and Thursday morning. The Wednesday evening voyage of Lite Ferry 12 from Dumaguete to Oslob, Cebu, was also cancelled. Enopia said trips to Cebu, Siquijor and Bohol continue to operate normally because the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Service s Administration (PAGASA) has not issued any advisory requiring the suspension of voyages on those routes. The Coast Guard said 18 passengers bound for Dapitan were stranded at the Dumaguete port Wednesday evening but later left after being informed of the cancellations. Coast Guard personnel remain on standby as forecasts indicate moderate to heavy rainfall may affect Negros Oriental from Thursday through Saturday.
