Singapore Ready to Assist in Cebu Earthquake Relief and Recovery Efforts

Manila: Singapore is prepared to support the Philippines in its relief and recovery operations following the devastating earthquake in Central Visayas, as stated by Singapore Ambassador to the Philippines Constance See.

According to Philippines News Agency, in a letter addressed to President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., Singapore's Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Lawrence Wong expressed condolences for the casualties and extensive damage caused by the magnitude 6.9 earthquake that struck Cebu and surrounding areas on September 30. Wong's letter emphasized Singapore's readiness to assist, underscoring the close ties and partnership within the ASEAN community.

Several international leaders have also extended their sympathies and offered support to the Philippines. Japanese Prime Minister Ishiba Shigeru and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim sent letters of solidarity to President Marcos on October 1, echoing Singapore's sentiments.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council has reported at least 72 fatalities and hundreds of injuries resulting from the earthquake. The widespread impact has prompted various countries to express their willingness to aid in the response efforts.
