Manila: Six senior police officials have been reassigned in the latest reorganization within the Philippine National Police (PNP), prompted by the retirement of several officials. At a press briefing on Thursday, PNP spokesperson Brig. Gen. Randulf Tua±o announced these changes, highlighting the new roles for the officials involved.
According to Philippines News Agency, Brig. Gen. Jaysen De Guzman, who previously served as the regional director of the Police Regional Office in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region (PRO-BAR), has been appointed as the acting chief of the Directorate for Personnel Records and Management (DPRM). He succeeds Maj. Gen. Constancio Chinayog, who retired at the age of 56. Brig. Gen. Christopher Abecia has been named the new PRO-BAR chief.
In further changes, Brig. Gen. Antonio Marallag Jr., formerly the director of PRO-2 (Cagayan Valley), will now lead the Directorate for Research and Development, taking over from Brig. Gen. Kirby Kraft, who is set to retire. Brig. Gen. Mariano Rodriguez will assume the role of director of PRO-2, while Brig. Gen. Manuel Abrugena will head the Headquarters Support Service. Additionally, Col. Harry Buenaventura Domingo will be assigned to PRO-11 (Davao Region) as deputy regional director for administration.
Brig. Gen. Tua±o indicated that these reassignments are part of ongoing activities within the PNP for the year 2026, driven by the number of officials set to retire. He noted that the upcoming month of May would see a significant number of retirements, prompting further organizational movements.
Addressing concerns raised by Sen. Panfilo Lacson about possible uprisings backed by retired military officers, Tua±o emphasized that the PNP remains apolitical and focused on its mandate of maintaining peace and order. He stated that there is no necessity for a loyalty check within the PNP, as the organization remains solid under the leadership of PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr.
