Laguna: Governor Sol Aragones and San Miguel Corporation (SMC) President Ramon Ang formally signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) to launch a collaborative flood control and dredging initiative across Laguna. In a news release, Provincial Information Officer Danilo Lucas stated that the dredging project will incur no cost to the provincial government.
According to Philippines News Agency, the project's goal is to not only remove silt and debris but also to restore the natural flow of waterways affected by pollution and land encroachment. Ang highlighted the significance of the project by stating, "Within one year, we can clean everything," and called for public cooperation to stop dumping trash into rivers.
Lucas mentioned that SMC presented a detailed map identifying several rivers in Laguna that require dredging and continuous cleanup operations. With the signing of the MOA and the start of dredging operations, Lucas expressed optimism that the project will bring lasting relief to thousands of residents and communities vulnerable to heavy flooding.
Ang also reminded local government units (LGUs) to sustain the cleanup efforts, emphasizing the need for maintaining equipment like barges and backhoes to keep the rivers clean. Governor Aragones commended SMC for the partnership, noting that the flood control initiative would not only address persistent flooding but also ease the fears of Lagunenses living in flood-prone areas.
