Southern leyte: The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) 8 (Eastern Visayas) has intensified its relief and coordination efforts in Southern Leyte in response to the destruction caused by Typhoon Tino.
According to Philippines News Agency, OCD-8 Officer in Charge Rey Gozon announced that the distribution of basic commodities and relief aid will be carried out through the combined efforts of the Regional Response Cluster. Gozon, who assessed the situation in the affected areas on Thursday, also oversaw the ongoing disaster response operations led by the government.
Gozon participated in several Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) Council meetings, reaffirming the Regional DRRM Council's dedication to providing immediate assistance to the municipalities impacted by the typhoon. He emphasized the importance of unified and well-coordinated actions among member agencies to guarantee efficient aid delivery and recognition of all humanitarian assistance and disaster response efforts.
To expedite relief and recovery efforts, the provincial government of Southern Leyte declared a state of calamity on November 6 through Executive Order 54, series of 2025.
In previous operations, the OCD-8 collaborated with Tactical Operations Group 8 - Tacloban, Joint Task Group Tacloban, and ACCESS 5 to conduct two sorties delivering non-food items to residents in Bontoc town, Southern Leyte. A total of 180 hygiene kits were distributed to communities cut off by landslides, and an additional 180 kits were delivered to Saint Bernard using the local government's vehicle.
