Quezon city: The rumored impeachment plan against President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. circulating among lawmakers in the House of Representatives is 'vague, shapeless, and formless,' Lanao del Sur 1st District Rep. Zia Alonto Adiong said on Saturday. Speaking at a news forum in Quezon City, Adiong expressed skepticism about the validity of any potential impeachment attempts, stating there are no offenses warranting such a complaint against the Chief Executive.
According to Philippines News Agency, Adiong emphasized the lack of clarity and substance in the rumors, questioning the identity and intent of those allegedly considering filing the complaint. 'Unang-una, hindi natin alam kung sino 'yong talagang gustong mag-file. Kaya nga very vague, shapeless, formless 'yong mga ganitong klaseng pag-uusap (First of all, we don't know who would file the complaint. That's why this kind of talks are very vague, shapeless, and formless),' he remarked.
Caloocan Rep. Edgar Erice, House Senior Deputy Minority Leader, previously mentioned that some lawmakers might endorse an impeachment complaint against President Marcos, describing it as a 'collective action of a pro-VP (Vice President) Sara (Duterte) group.' Erice noted that two legislators have already committed to supporting the complaint, although he himself declined an invitation to become an endorser.
Erice further stated that one of the potential grounds for the impeachment complaint includes 'betrayal of public trust' related to issues in past national budgets. Despite these claims, the impeachment discussions remain speculative and lack concrete evidence or backing from a significant number of lawmakers.
