Solon urges NGCP to ensure adequate power supply during summer

Anakalusugan Partylist Representative Ray Reyes on Thursday urged the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) to uphold its responsibility of providing adequate power supply, especially during summer, to ensure the quality and continuity of operations in health facilities. 'We urge the NGCP to make sure that we have adequate power supply all throughout the summer season when demand is at its highest Hospital patients' lives are on the line and we need to ensure that the quality of operations in our medical facilities will not be affected," Reyes said in a statement. The lawmaker made the call after the NGCP warned of possible intermittent power interruptions during the summer. Reyes also underscored the NGCP's role in the country's transition to green energy, and called on the power grid operator NGCP to fast track its studies on green energy projects in order to tap a more stable, cheaper energy supply for consumers. NGCP is a privately-owned corporation in charge of operating, maintaining, and developing the country's state-owned power grid. New energy source developers must first undergo a system impact study (SIS) by the NGCP before proceeding with an energy project. "NGCP has the power to make it easier for renewable energy technologies to make it into the grid. We need to finish more projects to ensure sufficient and cheaper energy supply," Reyes said.
