Manila: Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) Secretary Leo Tereso Magno has highlighted the potential of South Cotabato as both an agricultural powerhouse and a rising tourism destination, which he believes can propel inclusive regional development.
According to Philippines News Agency, Magno emphasized that South Cotabato's six decades of progress illustrate how the integration of culture, innovation, environmental stewardship, and people-centered governance can collectively enhance Mindanao's competitiveness and generate enduring opportunities. He stated, "Preserving identity and pursuing development are not competing priorities. They reinforce one another. Every success achieved by South Cotabato strengthens the larger story of Mindanao."
Magno made these remarks during his attendance at the province's 60th foundation anniversary and the opening of the 27th T'nalak Festival. He reaffirmed MinDA's commitment to collaborating with the provincial government to advance inclusive, resilient, and sustainable development that creates greater opportunities for communities, businesses, and future generations.
He praised South Cotabato's leadership in promoting people-centered governance through investment promotion, digital transformation, disaster resilience, environmental stewardship, and collaborative governance. These efforts continue to position the province as one of Mindanao's leading growth centers.
Supporting President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s directive to enhance regional connectivity and expedite infrastructure-led growth, Magno noted that MinDA is implementing the Mindanao Development Corridors Program. This initiative aims to improve transport, logistics, and investment linkages across the island.
Aligned with the administration's agenda on climate resilience, MinDA is also strengthening watershed governance through the Allah Valley Landscape Development Alliance. This collaboration with South Cotabato and partner local government units seeks to protect critical ecosystems while advancing inclusive development.
Moreover, MinDA is deepening cooperation under the Brunei Darussalam-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East ASEAN Growth Area. This initiative promotes socio-cultural exchanges, education partnerships, and people-to-people connectivity, opening new avenues for trade, tourism, and investment.
