Manila: Speaker Faustino 'Bojie' Dy III on Monday expressed gratitude to participants in the nationwide consultations concerning the proposed Anti-Political Dynasty Bill. The discussions, which took place across Cavite, Cebu, and Cagayan de Oro, were praised for showcasing both strong support and principled opposition-a reflection of a functioning democracy.
According to Philippines News Agency, the consultations were organized by the House Committee on Suffrage and Electoral Reforms, led by Lanao del Sur 1st District Rep. Zia Alonto Adiong. The events attracted a diverse group including students, civil society groups, local officials, professionals, and ordinary citizens from Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.
In a video message, Dy acknowledged the commitment and bravery shown by citizens participating in this national dialogue. He emphasized that meaningful reform relies on the active engagement of citizens willing to partake in policy discussions. Dy remarked, "It is not easy to devote time to listen, speak, and discuss an important democratic issue. But you chose to participate; you chose to articulate your feelings; and be part of the process."
Dy emphasized the essence of democracy, noting, "We may not agree on every provision. We may not see eye to eye on every detail. But the fact that we can sit down, listen to each other, and debate with respect - that is democracy in action."
The committee chaired by Adiong is currently consolidating 24 pending bills related to the anti-political dynasty initiative. Among these is House Bill No. 6771, filed by Dy and House Majority Leader Ferdinand Alexander 'Sandro' Marcos, which aims to define prohibited family relationships and set limits on holding elective office.
Describing the discussions as both substantive and grounded in real experiences, Dy stated, "In every discussion, we saw the courage and intellect of our people. Your opinions were clear, useful and rooted in real experience."
Furthermore, Dy expressed hope that the consultations could serve as a model for how Congress engages the public on major legislation in the future. He highlighted the importance of inclusive dialogue in strengthening both the law and public trust.
He affirmed that this exercise represents a shift towards participatory governance, emphasizing that lawmaking should extend beyond the session hall into communities across the nation. Dy concluded, "We will continue to discuss and listen. And we will continue to cooperate for a stronger New Philippines."
