Manila: Speaker Faustino 'Bojie' Dy III on Wednesday emphasized the importance of prioritizing public service over politics as he reflected on the achievements of the House of Representatives during the First Regular Session of the 20th Congress. He underscored that meaningful reforms were possible when lawmakers focused on the needs of the Filipino people.
According to Philippines News Agency, Dy attributed the success of the House to the unity within the institution, which enabled lawmakers to advance major reforms despite diverse political views and backgrounds. He highlighted that clear leadership direction and a collective focus on duty paved the way for significant legislative accomplishments.
The Speaker from Isabela showcased the commitment of the House to put the interests of the Filipino people at the forefront through unity and cooperation among lawmakers. He emphasized that their collaborative efforts, characterized by lively discussions and deliberations, yielded positive and meaningful results aimed at enhancing transparency and accountability.
Dy acknowledged the ongoing challenge of rebuilding public trust in government institutions, recognizing that Filipinos continue to seek evidence of genuine change. He stressed that trust must be earned through actions rather than words, highlighting the need for concrete legislative solutions to address economic opportunities, institutional strengthening, and the protection of vulnerable sectors.
Despite various challenges facing the country, Dy noted that the House of Representatives has emerged as a more focused and reform-oriented institution. He pointed out the passage of over 160 measures, including half of the Legislative-Executive Development Advisory Council (LEDAC) priority measures, which have been approved on third reading. These legislative achievements encompass major reforms such as the National Land Use Act, Digital Payments Act, and measures related to political reform, transparency, and online safety.
Dy concluded by stating that these advancements promise faster and more transparent government services, progress in political reforms, improved online safety, responsive institutions, accessible education, and an economy that genuinely improves the lives of ordinary Filipinos. He attributed these accomplishments to the sustained efforts of lawmakers during plenary sessions, committee hearings, consultations, and legislative deliberations.
