Dumaguete: The Department of Agriculture (DA) will hold a special rollout of the government's PHP20/kg rice project, regardless of social status, for Negros Island Region (NIR) provinces on Saturday. Alejandro Rafal, DA-NIR's Regional Technical Director for Operations officer-in-charge, shared this information.
According to Philippines News Agency, the special rollout will be held simultaneously in the provinces of Negros Oriental, Negros Occidental, and Siquijor. For Negros Oriental, the National Food Authority (NFA) has committed 150 bags of rice, each containing 50 kilos.
"This is open to everybody with no special or vulnerable sectors specifically identified to benefit from the activity. Each person can purchase up to 10 kilos of the government-subsidized rice," Rafal stated. The activity will commence at 8 a.m. on Saturday at the gymnasium of the Negros Oriental State University in the capital city.
The rice distribution will operate on a first-come, first-served basis, with buyers required to bring valid government identification. This special rollout is part of the Handog ng Pangulo (Gift of the President) program, a one-day caravan of government services on September 13, coinciding with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s 68th birthday.
