Manila: The Philippine National Police (PNP) has announced the implementation of stringent waste management protocols across all its offices and units as an initiative to address the country's ongoing garbage problems. This measure aligns with the PNP's commitment to environmental responsibility and community leadership.

According to Philippines News Agency, PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. emphasized the importance of police personnel setting a positive example in maintaining cleanliness in their workplaces and communities. He highlighted that everyone has a responsibility in tackling the waste disposal issue, echoing President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s directive for proper waste management to mitigate the adverse impacts of improper disposal, such as flooding.

Nartatez stated, "As law enforcers, police personnel are expected to set good examples to the people we serve, and in this particular case, the proper waste management and segregation." This statement was reiterated in a news release following the President's inspection of the Baclaran River in Para±aque City, where a large volume of trash had accumulated, exacerbated by recent heavy rains from the enhanced southwest monsoon.

President Marcos has ordered the immediate removal of the waste obstructing the river, noting the severity of the trash problem in the area. In response, Nartatez assured that the PNP would collaborate with local government units to enforce waste disposal regulations effectively.

He further stated, "We, in the PNP, are ready to provide assistance to the local government units in enforcing ordinances regarding waste disposal." Nartatez reaffirmed the PNP's commitment to staying actively involved in local initiatives aimed at keeping public spaces clean, demonstrating the force's dedication to environmental stewardship.
