Aurora: Super Typhoon Uwan (international name Fung-wong) has made landfall in the province of Aurora on Sunday night. The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reported that Uwan made landfall in the town of Dinalungan at 9:10 p.m.
According to Philippines News Agency, Uwan carries maximum sustained winds of 185 km per hour near the center and gusts of up to 230 km per hour, as noted in PAGASA's 8 p.m. weather bulletin. The severe weather has prompted PAGASA to raise Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 5 over several areas, including the southern portion of Quirino, the southeastern portion of Nueva Vizcaya, the northeastern portion of Nueva Ecija, and the northern and central portion of Aurora.
TCWS No. 4 has been issued for the southern portion of Isabela, the rest of Quirino, the rest of Nueva Vizcaya, and parts of the Mountain Province, Ifugao, Benguet, and more. This level of warning indicates potential dangerous conditions as the super typhoon continues its path.
TCWS No. 3 is in effect for the southern portion of mainland Cagayan, the rest of Isabela, parts of Apayao, Abra, Kalinga, and other areas including Metro Manila. This signal warns of strong winds and the risk of damage in affected locations.
TCWS No. 2 is covering the Babuyan Islands, the rest of mainland Cagayan, parts of Apayao, Occidental Mindoro, Oriental Mindoro, and other regions, signaling moderate winds.
Finally, TCWS No. 1 is raised over Batanes, portions of Masbate, northern Palawan, and various islands, indicating the presence of light to moderate winds in these areas.
Uwan is expected to traverse the mountainous terrain of Northern Luzon after landfall and emerge over Lingayen Gulf or the coastal waters of Pangasinan or La Union by Monday morning. While interaction with the terrain will likely weaken Uwan significantly, it is projected to remain a typhoon as it moves across northern Luzon.
