Surigao city: The crime rate in Surigao City decreased by 28.57 percent from Oct. 1 to Dec. 8, police reported Tuesday. The Surigao City Police Station recorded 19 index crimes during the period, down from 45 cases in the previous quarter. Notably, the city reported zero murder and homicide cases this quarter, down from two murders previously. Cases of physical injury, rape, and theft also saw significant declines, as well as non-index crimes and vehicular accidents.
According to Philippines News Agency, theft cases declined considerably during the quarter with seven cases compared to 16 in the previous quarter. Theft incidents were recorded at 1 a.m., 8 a.m., 7 p.m., 8 p.m., and 10 p.m., suggesting that offenders may be exploiting early business hours as well as periods of reduced residential activity later in the evening. The local police credited continued public support to its peace and order initiatives.
