Surigao to Southern Leyte Sea Travel Suspended

Surigao city: The Coast Guard Station in Surigao del Norte (CGS-SDN) has ordered the temporary suspension of sea travel from Surigao City and other parts of the province to Southern Leyte due to strong winds and rough seas.

According to Philippines News Agency, the travel suspension, which took effect at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, covers sea vessels with 700 gross tonnage and below, as indicated in the CGS-SDN advisory. The region, including Surigao del Norte and most parts of the Caraga Region, continues to experience unfavorable weather conditions due to the southwest monsoon and a low-pressure area.

The advisory also refers to the Notice to Mariners dated 26 August 2025, published by Coast Guard Station Southern Leyte, enforcing the temporary suspension of voyages within the area of responsibility from San Ricardo to Lipata, Surigao del Norte.

The CGS-SDN has reminded all vessels and motorboat operators to take precautionary measures and be extra vigilant amidst the inclement weather. The advisory notes that voyages will resume upon improvement of weather and sea conditions.
