Manila: Authorities have arrested an elderly drug suspect and seized from him PHP1.7 million worth of shabu in a law enforcement operation early Monday here. The Philippine National Police Drug Enforcement Group's Special Operation Unit-Zamboanga Peninsula (SOU-9) reported that the 61-year-old suspect was arrested during a buy-bust operation around 1:32 a.m. in Barangay Baliwasan.
According to Philippines News Agency, evidence seized from the suspect's possession includes five heat-sealed transparent plastic packs containing shabu, marked money, and a mobile phone. "The estimated weight of the confiscated suspected shabu is 250 grams with a street-level price of PHP1,700,000," the SOU-9 specified. The suspect was subsequently turned over to Zamboanga City Police Station 11 for temporary detention, while the drug evidence was sent to the Regional Forensic Unit-9 for laboratory examination.
Charges for violation of Republic Act 9165, also known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act, are set to be filed against the suspect. Monday's buy-bust marks the second significant accomplishment of SOU-9 in its ongoing anti-drug campaign this month. Earlier, on July 7, two drug suspects were arrested, and over PHP1 million worth of shabu was seized in Barangay Boalan.
