Bislig city: The Surigao del Sur Police Provincial Office (SDSPPO) on Wednesday announced the arrest of one of the suspects in the killing of Bislig City broadcaster Edwin Segovia. SDSPPO Director Col. Jeffrey Lawrence Mauricio identified the 40-year-old suspect as a farmer and a resident of Barangay Rajah Cabungsuan, Lingig, Surigao del Sur.
According to Philippines News Agency, the suspect was apprehended during the service of two search warrants on August 2 at his residence in Rajah Cabungsuan. Radio WOW FM broadcaster Segovia, aged 63, was gunned down on July 21.
During the operation, authorities seized two .45-caliber pistols, a fragmentation grenade, and ammunition from the suspect. The search warrants were issued by the Regional Trial Court Branch 46 for violations of Republic Act Nos. 10591, the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, and 9516, which pertains to Illegal Possession of Firearms, Ammunition, or Explosives.
Mauricio stated that the operation not only led to the arrest of a key suspect but also removed illegal firearms and an explosive from the streets, preventing potential harm.
