PUERTO PRINCESA CITY: Arvin Naeem Taguinota II of Pasig City and Sophia Rose Garra of Malabon City collected their third gold medals Monday in the Batang Pinoy National Championships at the Ramon V. Mitra Jr. Sports Complex pool here. Taguinota triumphed in the boys' 12-13 200-meter backstroke event with a time of 2:19.88, surpassing competitors Behrouz Mohammad Mojdeh of Parañaque City and Titus Rafael Sia of San Juan City. This victory adds to his previous wins in the 100m and 200m freestyle events. According to Philippines News Agency, Garra secured her gold in the girls' 12-13 200m backstroke event with a time of 2:30.00, outperforming Anika Kathryn Matiling of Bacolod City and Angella Tane Perez of Kidapawan. Her other victories include the 100m freestyle and 200m Individual Medley events, showcasing her versatile swimming skills. Meanwhile, Jaime Uaandor Maniago and Patrick Anthony Vidal brought more success for Quezon City, which currently leads the medal tally with nine golds, 10 silvers, and 13 bro nzes. Maniago set a new record in the boys' 16-17 100m breaststroke event, finishing at 1:06.78, thus breaking the previous mark set by Morie Pabalan of Pasig City last year. Joaquin Taguinod and Miguel Luis Martinez followed with silver and bronze, respectively. Vidal claimed victory in the boys' 16-17 50m butterfly, clocking in at 26.25 seconds to edge out Albert Jose Amaro II of Naga City and Ryan Zach Danzel Belen of San Fernando, La Union. Pasig City follows in the medal tally with eight golds, five silvers, and 14 bronzes, while Baguio City stands third with seven golds, seven silvers, and eight bronzes. The tournament, organized by the Philippine Sports Commission, offers a substantial reward of PHP5 million in cash to the overall champion local government unit. Those placing second to fifth will receive PHP4 million, PHP3 million, PHP2 million, and PHP1 million, respectively.
