Antipolo: President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has taken significant steps to bolster economic development by establishing a special economic zone in Antipolo. In a move aimed at enhancing the region's economic landscape, Marcos issued Proclamation No. 752 on November 22, designating Xentromall Antipolo and its surrounding land as a special economic zone. According to Philippines News Agency, the newly designated economic zone spans a gross floor area of 27,622.18 square meters, with the land area measuring 10,898 square meters. The area is set to become an information technology center, strategically located along Sumulong Highway in Barangay Mambugan, Antipolo City. This initiative falls under Republic Act 7916, also known as the Special Economic Zone Act of 1995, and follows the recommendation of the Board of Directors of the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA). Republic Act 7916, enacted on February 24, 1995, aims to stimulate economic growth by developing special economic zones, or 'ecozones.' These zones are defined as selected areas with high development potential in sectors such as agro-industrial, industrial, tourist/recreational, commercial banking, investment, and finance. Within these zones, businesses can benefit from industrial estates, export processing zones, free trade zones, and tourist/recreational centers. By establishing the Antipolo City economic zone, President Marcos seeks to attract more companies to the region. Businesses operating within these zones are granted various tax and financial incentives, reducing manufacturing costs and fostering a more favorable business environment.
