Taal Volcano Logs Phreatic Explosion, Says OCD.

Taal: The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) reported that Taal Volcano experienced a phreatic eruption early Tuesday morning. According to Philippines News Agency, the OCD-Calabarzon shared details of the eruption on its Facebook page, stating that the steam-driven or phreatic eruption occurred at 5:58 a.m. towards the southwest direction. In response, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) alerted the public via SMS, advising them to await further advisories regarding the situation. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology had previously reported a minor phreatic eruption at Taal Volcano on November 30, which lasted for six minutes. Phreatic eruptions, characterized by steam-driven explosions, occur when water beneath the ground or on the surface is heated by magma, lava, hot rocks, or new volcanic deposits.
