Manila: The government's initiatives to enhance internet connectivity in the Philippines, paired with its ongoing digitalization and digitization efforts, are crucial elements facilitating the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) among Filipinos.
According to Philippines News Agency, Gibu Mathew, Managing Director of Zoho APAC, a Texas-based technology firm, emphasized during a recent briefing that several aspects are vital for AI to become more widely used and effective. These include the initial steps of digitization and familiarization with devices such as laptops, starting with school-aged children, as well as ensuring a robust internet connection.
Mathew noted that the Philippines already possesses these positive elements, creating a conducive environment for AI adoption. He highlighted the importance of user education, stressing that individuals and businesses need to understand how to adopt and leverage this technology to enhance their services and processes.
Mathew also pointed out that AI is significantly reducing the barriers for human interaction with technology through advancements in voice, video, and other smart technologies, ultimately boosting productivity. The government's ambition to increase the digital economy's contribution to 12 percent of the country's annual output, coupled with the Philippines' leadership in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) this year, is expected to play a pivotal role in achieving this target.
Furthermore, Mathew mentioned that businesses are continuing to invest in technological innovations, expressing optimism about the rising allocation for tech-related expenses. He noted that the Philippines ranks among Zoho's top three markets in the Asia Pacific region, following Singapore. He believes this growth trend will persist as more domestic firms and local branches of major business process outsourcing companies leverage technology to enhance operations and profitability.
In conclusion, Mathew stated that AI enables organizations to perform more efficiently, and he is confident that businesses have already recognized its value, leading to increased adoption of these technologies.
