Tesla: Tesla has released an iOS app for its robotaxi service on Apple's App Store, with a waitlist now open to the public, AOL reported Wednesday.
According to Philippines News Agency, Tesla announced that the robotaxi app is now available for everyone to download, allowing users to join a waitlist as the company plans to expand access soon. Tesla has also mentioned that an Android version of the app will be released in the future.
Business Insider, which tested the app, reported that upon opening the app, users initially encounter the terms of service, which state that the rides may operate autonomously without a safety driver. Users are then required to register with a Tesla account to join the waitlist, with access being granted approximately three hours post-registration.
The app provides maps highlighting service areas in Austin and San Francisco and features a carousel showcasing the app's functionalities. A button titled 'Latest news on the service' redirects users to Tesla's robotaxi X account for updates.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk had announced the robotaxi during a launch event in October 2024, with its service initially rolled out in Austin in June and subsequently in San Francisco in July. Musk informed investors in January about his expectations for Tesla to have unsupervised full self-driving vehicles operational in most countries by the end of the next year, acknowledging that this aim might be constrained by regulatory challenges.
