Legazpi city: At least 52 villages in various towns in Albay province were heavily affected by thick ashfall from Mayon Volcano on Saturday. The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) 5 (Bicol) reported that the affected villages are located in Camalig and Guinobatan towns, as well as in Ligao City. According to Philippines News Agency, Mayon's pyroclastic density current (PDC) occurred at the Mi-isi Gully, affecting 18 barangays in Guinobatan town, including Minto, Malabnig, Mapaco, Doña Tomasa, and several others. In Camalig town, the ashfall impacted 17 barangays, such as Cabangan, Salugan, Anoling, and portions of Barangays Libod, Ilawod, Gapo, and Sumlang. Ligao City also saw 17 barangays affected, including Busac, Allang, Palapas, and Abella. OCD-5 has initiated distribution of approximately 250 boxes of face masks to the municipalities of Daraga, Camalig, Guinobatan, and Ligao City. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) noted that the plume is drifting west-southwestward, with ashf all affecting the towns of Camalig and Guinobatan, Albay. The agency estimated the PDC runout to be 4 km. Meanwhile, the Deployable Response Group (DRG) of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) District 5 is on alert and prepared for possible deployment due to the ongoing activity and flow of pyroclastic density currents from Mayon Volcano. PCG-5 Bicol commander, Commodore Ivan Roldan, stated that more than 124 DRG personnel from various units in the district are on standby to conduct response operations, including evacuation support and humanitarian assistance. The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) 5 has also mobilized and deployed personnel to the affected areas. BFP-5 Director, Senior Supt. Achilles Santiago, mentioned that their teams are providing assistance and emergency services to affected communities, while coordinating with government agencies and local disaster management councils. All BFP-Albay personnel are on high alert, with fire stations maintaining full operational readiness. Response teams are p re-positioned and ready for immediate deployment, delivering emergency response, evacuation assistance, search-and-rescue operations, and other critical services. BFP-5 assured the public of its continued commitment to addressing the needs of communities affected by the eruption of Mayon Volcano. Residents in high-risk zones are urged to follow advisories issued by Phivolcs and local authorities.
