Phnom penh: Filipino top seed Maristella Torrecampo defeated Vietnamese third seed Binh Nhieh To, 6-3, 7-6 (7-1), to reach the girls' singles final in the ITF Asia U14 Development Championships at Morodok Techno National Stadium in Phnom Penh, Cambodia on Thursday. The 13-year-old player from Naga City, Camarines Sur, continued her impressive run in the tournament.
According to Philippines News Agency, Torrecampo had previously bested To, 6-0, 6-1, in the Final Four last week, showcasing her dominance on the court. In the finals, Torrecampo will face Singaporean Zixi Wang, who defeated fourth seed Linh Nguyen, 6-3, 6-4, in the semifinals. Last week, Torrecampo clinched the first leg title by overcoming Mongolian Aissata Enkhzaya Adama, 6-3, 7-5.
Meanwhile, in the doubles category, To and Nguyen defeated the team of Torrecampo and Ella Paglalunan, 3-6, 6-2, 10-6, to advance to the finals. They will meet Adama and Khuslen Munkbayar, who secured a victory over fourth seeds Jannat Howlander and Mastora Afrin of Bangladesh, 6-3, 5-7, 10-8.
In the boys' division, top seed Phu Le of Vietnam overcame fifth seed Nicholas Park of Singapore, 6-0, 5-7, 6-1, setting up a final match with compatriot Tuan Vu. Vu, the fourth-ranked player, triumphed over second seed Leon Ho of Singapore, 2-6, 6-2, 6-3.
In doubles action, the No. 1 duo of Le and Vu defeated Filipino pair Alexi Aldemita and Marcus Go, 6-3, 6-4, to arrange a final clash with Park and Ho, who won against P. Chanthavong and S. Chansomphou of Laos, 6-2, 6-1.
