Tourists Urged to Stay Indoors as Severe Tropical Storm Opong Hits

Manila: Travelers in the path and areas already affected by Severe Tropical Storm Opong (international name Bualoi) and the southwest monsoon are told to stay indoors and avoid unnecessary travel until weather conditions improve.

According to Philippines News Agency, the Department of Tourism (DOT) issued an advisory urging tourists to remain alert and take necessary precautions as the storm impacts the Visayas and threatens several parts of the country, including portions of Luzon.

The advisory highlighted the possibility of flight, ferry, and land transport delays or cancellations due to adverse weather. Travelers are advised to verify the status of their trips with airlines, shipping lines, and transport operators before proceeding.

The DOT also warned of potential flooding and landslides, particularly in mountainous and low-lying areas. The department emphasized the importance of safety and well-being of tourists and tourism workers, encouraging everyone to exercise caution and patience during the tropical cyclone.
